Jeff Foxworthy was born to James Abstance and Carol Linda Foxworthy on the 6th September 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia. Jeff went to Hapeville High School and later on to Georgia Tech in Atlanta. After university he went to work for IBM.
In 1984 he won the Southeastern Laugh-Off in the Punch Line comedy Club, which spurred him to quit IBM and follow a career in comedy.
It took some time for Jeff to make the breakthrough realeasing his Live album in 1990, which was followed in 1993 by 'You Might Be A Redneck If..'. The album was massive, selling three million and sitting pretty on the top of the comedy charts. This success was spotted by ABC, who offered Foxworthy his own sitcom. The Jeff Foxworthy Show was made but was unfortunately drop after a year. However, NBC picked it up, but they also dropped it after a year. The failure of the comedy sit-com was mainly down to the networks enability to market this Southern humour to a national audience.
Jeff had a string on singles that regularly appeared in the Hot Country Songs charts as well as Comedy albums which kept him in the public eye. As well as penning a few redneck humour books and an autobiography. A return to main stream fame came with the formation of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour with comedians Larry The Cable Guy, Ron White and Bill Engvall. The group toured the country and performed to record crowds. The popularity of the show seen it being extended consistently, ending after three years on the road.
The Blue Collar Tour members launched a TV show in 2004 called Blue Collar TV which was aired on Comedy Central and the WB Television Network. The show was a moderate success and spun off into Foxworthy's Big Night Out which is shown on Country Music Television and also into a radio show called Blue collar Comedy Radio.
Jeff Foxworthy is currently the host of the FOX gameshow 'Are you Smarter Than A 5th Grader?' which is currently airing on Thursdays after American Idol. And can also be seen in Canada and the Middle East.
